Flood.

When it rains, it pours. When it pours, it floods. That's basically where my life has gone....flooded.

I can't even put things together enough to write a coherant blog post...there is so much going on in my mind...so, to spare you all, I'm not even going to try.

Here's just an idea of what I will be explaining in detail at some point of time in the future:
  • My dad called, but I didn't accept the call. I need to write him a letter.
  • My sister-in-law called and we are going to help her out. We need to re-arrange some things in the house.
  • Isa woke up this morning with a 102.7 fever and then threw up. She will be home with me tomorrow.
  • Our sleep patterns have been shot to hell this weekend. Friday night, we went to sleep at 2 AM. I got woken up at 5 AM by a phone call requiring me to leave. I returned home and went back to sleep around 11 AM and I slept until about 2 PM. Last night, we didn't fall asleep until 4 AM and woke up around 8 AM, but went back to sleep until about 10 AM when Isa finally woke up. We returned to take a nap around 1 PM and slept until about 5 PM. Now, it's 11 PM and I know I need to go to bed. But my brain seems to think differently.
  • My son broke a wine glass that I painted for heARTworks, now, I need to redo it. It pretty much rocked too.
  • My home needs some loving attention. The dust on my mantel is high enough that you cannot see the original wood color (mostly thanks to all the sanding that Jose did to the house in January). The laundry pile that needs folded is large enough that an elephant would be scared. The craft room's mess could hide small vehicle. Ugh. I need a maid.
I'm pretty sure that I jinxed myself last week when I stated that I really want a boring life. When I can think straight, I'll fill in some missing pieces...if you pray, please just shoot out some little prayers for our little family. Thank you.

An Education In Ebay

So, last night, Jose was on the computer as I sat at the table chatting with a friend. He was quiet, but at one point asked me to help him. I asked what he needed help with, but he never responded, so I figured that he was doing okay.

[Let me interject that my husband is computer impaired. Aside from the hunt and peck typing, I have had to teach him basically everything about how to use a computer and the internet. He's not stupid, but just not the most savvy.]

Then, he came and sat down at the chair next to me. He looked serious as he asked, "If you are the highest bidder, do you have to buy it?"

My jaw dropped. My friend laughed and asked what he bid on.

"A phone."

Finally, I found words and asked how much he bid.

"Like $80."

I stared at him, speechless. So he continued to talk.

"I don't even want it. I was just messing around. I didn't know that I had to buy it."
I asked how much longer was on the auction, hoping that he'd be outbid before it ended. He just asked me to try to cancel it, so I sat at the computer. The auction had less then three minutes remaining and he was the highest bidder.

Then...he won.

Fortunately, I thought to email the seller. Here is the message that they recieved, and I can only imagine the snickering that happened on the other end of the email:

"I want to apologize in advance, then I want to ask you what can be done. My husband decided that he *needs* a new phone. So, he got onto ebay, on my account, and started bidding on things, not understanding a darn thing about what auctions are, what ebay is, etc. Then, about ten minutes ago, he came and asked, if you win a bid, do you have to buy it? Uh. I nearly lost it. So, he bid on this phone, not even wanting it. Just to see how it worked. Needless to say, I am not happy with him right now. Is there any way to cancel the order? I know that once a bid is placed and confirmed, it's done. And I understand if you want us to follow through with our order. We will. I just wondered if there was anything that could be done? Thank you. And I am so sorry."

Within moments, I got an email asking for confirmation to cancel the order. Needless to say, Jose will not be allowed on ebay anytime soon...

The Victims of The Grey

Earlier, I posted this about the good guys vs. the bad guys; the black and white that we are taught and the areas that are hard to decipher. There are more grey areas than areas of black and white.
As a Christian, I have seen where this can be damaging to my children's safety. We love strangers because Jesus loves us all, but we do not trust them or speak to them (unless Mommy or Daddy says its okay). We go to a police officer if we are lost or hurt, and when we need help, a police officer will come help us, but even restrictions must be taught my five-year-old.

I hate that the world is so scary.

I also hate that I struggle to trust.

In my faith, we trust one another. Trust is an essential foundation. But, in the world you cannot trust people. You never know who is lying, cheating, hiding, plotting, etc.

In the last few weeks, I have seen more than my share of this. And it breaks my soul. It makes my heart cry out for the "good guys" who have fallen victim to someone's malice and wrong doings.

Usually, but not always, the innocent victims are the children. Children are the ones hurt most by addiction, greed, drugs, abuse, lies, etc. Adults play more of an active role, but children are uninvolved.

In my life, I always think of the affair. I do not claim to be the victim of my husband cheating. I played a role in our marriage and its darkness. I played a role in tearing apart his self esteem and breaking down communication. I was not innocent. However, one reason we changed our lives around and began to fix our marriage was the bystanders, our kids. And there will always be another victim, the other child born of the affair.

In my life, I also think of my dad. I have fallen victim to his alcohol addiction. I have played no role in causing him to drink or build his addiction. However, I have adjusted to it the best way that I can. But, now that he continues to be arrested, it is affecting our family, my kids.

Are my husband and my dad “bad guys”? No. Is there any black and white in these situations? No. It’s all a shade of grey.

Those are only two personal situations. In the world around me, I see a lot. I have been exposed to a ton in my short life: death, murder, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, abuse, molestation, rape, gang involvement, prison time, domestic violence, drug sales, violence, police, car wrecks, blood, robbery, etc…if I have not personally been through it, I have been close enough to it to see the inner workings of it all. People’s emotions, fears, hurts. The anger, the aggression. The remorse.

Are these people “good guys” or “bad guys”? Is there a label to describe people as “good” or “bad”?

We cannot judge a person’s character by a single action.

But what happens when it repeats? When it occurs over and over and over again? What about those people that are being hurt by it, especially those who are incapable of defending and protecting themselves?

I don’t know. Every situation is different. Every situation has a long story behind it that is only ever truly known by those directly involved, but what do you do when those people involved return to their bad choices? I don’t know.

All I know is that it makes my heart hurt.

The World Is Grey; Not Black & White.

Cops and robbers.
Good guys and bad guys.
Bad versus evil.

As a child, growing up, you are given this black and white image of the world. There are these people that are good. There are these people who are not. Period.

What is not mentioned are those grey areas. Those people that are not bad people, they just make bad decisions.

A loving mother who choses between an abusive husband who can provide or a life of homelessness and poverty by leaving.

A teenager who strives to receive missing affection by putting out for any man that shows her attention, consequentially resulting in a pregnancy of a baby that is unwanted.

A man who is in a marriage that has lost all emotion except anger who turns to another woman for a relationship.
An abused child who becomes a drug user that is such a drain to his family that they are left poor, financially and emotionally.
A young man who has grown up without a father, engaging in criminal activity to find acceptance from gang members.
The list could continue forever. And ever.

Who is the good guy? Who is the bad guy? Where is the black and white now?

My Temporal Lobe Fails Me.

Crap. I forgot.

Growing up, it was a joke in our house that I forgot things. A lot. My mom would tell me to go upstairs, grab my socks, brush my hair, and bring down my homework and I'd come down with socks. I then had to admit that I forgot the other things she told me to do.

My stepdad joked that you couldn't tell me more than one thing to do without writing it out for me. This was the reason that much of my high school career was spent with things written on my hand.

This is also the reason that I have a million to-do lists.

But the most amusing trick I use was one learned early on...the repetition trick. I am so glad my husband loves me because I will often walk through the house singing my list to not forget things.

For example, as I pack up the diaper bag: "Teo's shoes, diaper, sippy cup, wipes. Teo's shoes, diaper, sippy cup, wipes." Or when I run to the basement: "Laundry, can of peas, juice, hoodies. Laundry, can of peas, juice, hoodies."

Sometimes, there's even a cool dance involved.

Confessions of a Real Life Mommy #7, 8, 9, & 10

#7. Isa has a drawer under her bed that is broken. Instead of fixing it, we just emptied it, pushed it in, and told her not to use it.

#8. Teo would rather wear his potty seat around his head than use it. I'd rather not fight with him about it until he starts using it, so it's a common accessory.

#9. The first thing we taught our kids once they could walk was to throw their own diapers away. It just makes sense.
#10. I don't think that either of my kids has worn matching socks in over 4 months. See Confession #3 for more info.

Just Because I Know You Are Dying To Ask...

So, as the day nears it's end, I know you are dying to ask me a few questions. So, to save you the burning feeling inside your mind...I'll answer them (because, of course, I'm already knowing what you would ask).

Q: How do I feel?
A: Right this second, not too bad. I have the heating pad on my back and took another dosage of drugs a couple hours ago that have recently kicked in. I do however have a migraine, which is weird because one of the drugs I took was a pain reliever. I have officially taken three doses of my antibiotics, but this evening around seven, my fever returned and although it didn't go quite so high, it did hit about 101 before my medicine kicked in and took it down.

Q: How is my dad?
A: I don't know. He has not contacted me at all from jail this time. I have spoken to his (soon to be ex) wife via phone and text, but not much. She said something today about him possibly doing 6-12 months in rehab instead of staying in jail, so that'd be interesting.

Q: How is work going?
A: I love it so much. I never dreamed that I could have such a wonderfully perfect job(s) that allowed me to have flexibility and do what I love so much. I seriously never realized that a job could be so amazing. I am able to use my wide array of God-given skills to do a wide variety of tasks to serve Him and others in the community. I seriously love it!

Q: How are the kids?
A: Well, Teo recieved a much needed haircut yesterday. And Isa is her normally mouthy self anymore. I love them both dearly, and Mondays and Tuesdays are the worst days in the week because I work 12 hours and don't see them at all (except to get Isa ready for school). Teo is learning to talk much more (even though it's still quite garbled) and is becoming more able to play alone. Isa is learning to read (which is so awesome) but still can't tie her shoes. Aside from her attitude issues, she's growing into quite a strong and beautiful young lady.

Q: How is my marriage?
A: Good. The weekend away was much needed and removed a lot of our tension. My recent illness crap has made things a little rough, simply because I am too tired and in too much pain to help much around the house, but we did nearly complete the dining room, so that continues to keep us smiling. I haven't thought about the affair much lately, so slowly but surely, it's becoming "normal" again.

Q: How's heARTworks?
A: So awesome. I am amazed at how successful it has become and have a couple orders that I need to finish up. This being sick crap has made me behind a bit, but it'll even out soon. I am looking forward to a couple of the larger projects coming up!

So, that's enough of question and answer time...I'm exhausted and am going to bed...

Seriously though, if you could ask me just one question, what would it be (feel free to ask anoynmously)? I will answer them soon!

RSVP: No.

In my 26 years of life, I have attended a handful of "parties" that women throw. You know, the ones where there is "no obligation to buy" but then you feel so guilty, you walk away spending over $50 and get two things that you don't really need.

I hate shopping to begin with. I am frugal and have problems saying "no" (read previous posts about boundaries if you doubt this). I am a salesperson's dream.

What is funny is that, in all my years of attending these parties with my mom or with friends, I have yet to walk away with something that is so beyond amazing that it has transformed my life, despite all the promises.

Mary Kay, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Pure Romance, Lia Sophia, Tastefully Simple, etc....although you all are lovely products, my life is not completed by you.

And, while I love spending time with my friends, I do believe that I would rather have a day of playing wii or shooting billards or just plain eating a meal together, than having someone tell me how amazing a product is.

Why are salespeople so good at what they do?

One time, we bought a Kirby from a kid with holey shoes that came bearing a bottle of hand soap. Kind of. But that is a story for another day. And one time, we bought a house full of windows from a man who came to the door. Kind of. But that is another story for another day as well.

I can see how weak I am in regards to door-to-door salespeople. And I know how weak I am in regards to sale-parties.

Therefore, for the same reason that I no longer open the door to someone holding a clipboard, flyer, or a bottle of soap (well, maybe with the bottle of soap, but only to take the soap, then tell them no and lock the door)...I will no longer attend your "parties".

Invite me to hang out, and I'll try my hardest to be there. Invite me to listen to a sales pitch and I'll have to deny. (And for those friends who are consultants themselves, keep rockin' what you do. I just don't have the willpower to say walk away without buying something that I don't need.)

So, what's the best and/or worst purchase you've ever gotten from a "party"?

The Future - Month 1

For New Years, I wrote this...however, they were more of goals than resolutions...

We have finished the first month of 2011...and here's where I stand with these goals.
1. I have continued to go to therapy and work on boundaries. I have obtained a borrowed copy of the book, but have yet to open it...can we say February goal? I have been able to draw more lines and say no a little more often.

2. We have been spending at much time as possible with the kids, but it's been a busy month. However, we are trying to read together more, cuddle more, etc. I miss them a lot on the evenings that I work.

3. I am still dealing with my issues. I have blogged a lot more lately to sort through the thoughts. I have also been talking to Jose more and as mentioned above, still doing therapy.

4. We have began the O.W.L. group with some special ladies. I posted about it here. I haven't done the best, but at most, I am at least much more aware of what I am putting into my body now. I have begun to eat breakfast. Have basically cut out all soda other than diet. Am eating much less as far as late night snacks. And of course, I am drinking more water and eating a lot less junk food. There has been a drop in weight so something must be working...

5. As time allows, I have tried to increase my physical activity...I am not to a consistant three times per week yet though...soon. Soon.

6. I've done 15 scrapbook pages in January! The all day scrapping event helped a ton! See the newest pages here. Only 35 more to go to reach my goal...hehe!

7. Since the first week of January, I have been unable to work on cleaning out electronic photos or getting any more printed...I plan to work on them again soon.

8. I still haven't touched my ipod files. If anyone wants to volunteer to organize them all, the project is theirs!

9. The house projects are huge and will take a lot of time. At the first of the year, my dad and Jose got two windows in. Since then, Jose has been stripping and staining the dining room trim. See some photos here. And here.

10. I have become a lot less focused on facebook. It's just not necessary...

11. The house exterior and fence will wait until spring has sprung.

12. I have been going to bed fairly consistantly around 1 AM (or earlier), except on weekends and times when we are kidless, but those nights are different because I am able to sleep in.

13. I have 2 tin orders to complete, a mini mural and a canvas painting. I have also hit 100 followers on heARTworks facebook page! Whoot whoot!
14. I continue to have discussions about affairs and it has definately been laid upon my heart to do more in the form of a website...I am still hoping for a launch date of my wedding anniversary.

15. I finished one book in January. Father Fiction by Donald Miller. I have also read about half of another and have a list of three or so waiting for me. I need to count pages, but I feel accomplished already.

16. Jose and I took a mini-vacation to Columbus, Ohio. It was a renewal kinda thing. You can read about it and see photos here,

17 & 18. Haven't done a darn ditty thing in regards to sewing or knitting...maybe once the dining room is livable, we can find my craft room again...it's kinda buried.

19. Again, doors will wait until at least spring.

20. And, I have been so focused on drinking water that milk is just a pain...but I am focusing on getting more dairy in general, so hopefully in the next few months, we can start working milk in.

One month down, eleven more to go! Now taking bets: Can I do it? If not, which do you think I will complete and which will be deemed as "failures"?

A Day in the Life...of Me.

This morning, as usual, the kids were up before the sun. Nothing new there. And, as usual, the kids had a good number of squabbles, arguements, and screming fits. Teo bit Isa, hit Isa, and I'm sure that if he was able to tattle too, we would hear what she did to him. At one point, she came into the room to tell us that Teo had dumped the cereal on the kitchen floor and we figured it couldn't be that bad because every morning, she pours a bowl of cereal. However, once we got up and around for the day, and stepped into the kitchen, we realized that it wasn't a bowl that he dumped out. It was an entire container of Fruity Pebbles, at least a box worth. And it was all over the floor, every inch of the kitchen tile was covered.

So, of course, we cleaned it up. Then, I clipped coupons for our trip to the store really quick and we headed out for breakfast.

At the restaurant, we had amazing food, but recieved not so amazing backtalk from my daughter. I was planning to go to the O.W.L. meeting with my ladies, but decided against it in fear that my hubby would go insane if left on his own with both of our kids today. After a small blowout or two as we finished eating and paying at the restaurant, we headed to Meijer.

Our shopping trip went well enough for our first coupon adventure in a long time. In all honesty, with our stockpile, we haven't really done much grocery shopping at all in the past month, aside from the staples and fresh foods. The carts filled up slowly and we headed to check out. Jose went in one aisle with his cart and I went into the other with mine. My cashier was amazing, fast, and awesome. When I was done, I let Isa go ride the penny pony and saw Jose still checking out. He looked furious. He was furious.

When we got home, he told me that the cashier was rude and wouldn't take half of his coupons for no good reason. She even went so far as to lean over and speak to the person in line behind him as he was loading the cart. He overheard her say something snippy about not understanding why people would use coupons when they are on EBT (food stamps) anyways.

So, he went back to face her and pay, paid in cash and said loudly, "I'm not on food stamps," before walking away. The only thing she had to base her opinion on was his appearance, and my husband does not dress down (like I do often!).

Either way, he calmed down, and we made leftovers for lunch as I cleaned out the refridgerator to make room for our food. We ate and then left the kids to watch a movie while we cut some fresh fruit to keep at hand in the fridge. All went well enough. I cut the entire watermelon and Jose packed it into a couple containers, eating it as he went along. Isa was assisting with the eating process. Both of them jokingly told me a few different times to not cut my fingers off. "Of course not," I replied.

Then, I began to cut the melon, but before I could get the first piece cut apart, the knife slipped, causing me to knick the back of my ring finger and slice down the flesh of my thumb. I dropped the knife, laughing at the irony, and turned to run the faucet over the blood. I told Jose to get me two bandaids and Isa, once realizing what happened, began her crazy dramatics of running in circles and screaming.

We got me bandaged up and it's no big deal, but afterwards, Jose turned to me and called me crazy, because it caused me to laugh and all he could do was not freak out with seeing a flap of my thumb hanging there. I pretty much cut it from the top of my nail to the base of my nail...fortunately, with pressure, the skin went back into place and the bleeding stopped.

So, now, we are having quiet time, which is good because I needed a break from all the excitement...and the day isn't even over yet!

[Edit:

After typing the above post, Isa came down from her "quiet time" and I decided to lie on the couch with her and snuggle. The snuggles were short lived as she soon hopped up, wanting to color, so I decided to treat myself to a nap, as she could entertain herself and Teo was upstairs napping, and Jose was too, as was evident from the snoring that vibrated through the living room ceiling, right about where he would be lying should he fall asleep on Teo's floor.

Basically, as soon as I started to fall asleep, screaming begin as Teo woke up and then before I could fall back asleep, Jose and Teo were in the living room with us. Teo wanted snuggles, so I agreed. Again, short lived, but perfect timing because my mom called to say that she was taking my niece to a store really quick and would be at my house to get my kids. We quickly made them chicken nuggets and gave them some string cheese for dinner, and packed them up to go.

As soon as they were out the door, we decided to treat ourselves to a dinner out. Jose chose the Chinese buffet, not my favorite, but it was quite good tonight. We ate and then returned home to decide what to do.

We decided (Well, Jose decided and I agreed kinda) to work on the house. On New Years Eve, Jose began the project of stripping all the paint and sanding the trim in the dining room. This includes two door frames and a wall to wall built in shelf that stretches floor to ceiling. When we moved in, the trim was a light pink color (yes, you read that right) and in our rush to make our house livable, we painted it dark brown. After three or so years here, however, life has taken its toll and there were knicks everywhere that has pink showing through the brown (this is an occurance in our living room as well, which I'm afraid may be next). I agreed that it was a good project to do, at the time, but now, I am just ready for it to be done. There is plastic draped everywhere, including hanging in the doorway and from the ceiling where the living room and dining room connect.

So, I agreed to help. He showed me how to use the heat gun and the five-in-one (scraper thingie) to remove the paint from the baseboards. Easy enough. I did about four feet worth while he used the sander, then I asked him to trade. My thumb hurt from holding the scraper. So, we switched and I sanded while he scraped. My arm jiggled and jiggled, but after quite awhile, I was ready to have the feeling back, so I asked to switch back. I began to melt and scrape again. Then, I bumped my scraping hand against the heat gun. And watched as a nice pink spot appeared on my skin. But, I continued to work. After a minute or two, the pain really got to me, so I got the aloe and applied it to the burn. Just my luck, eh?

Soon after, I begged Jose to stop working for the night so we could hang out and watch a movie, which is what we are doing now. Thank goodness today is nearly over and there is limited time for things to go wrong...lol!

:End Edit]

My Blog is So Random.

I wish I was cool enough to know how to streamline it...to make it focus on one thing, topic, element of me. But, I don't. So I can't. I'm so multifaceted. And layered.

Like an onion, as put best by Shrek. But it's not just emotions. I'm just so random and sporatic anyways. At any given point, I have 6,345,231 things running through my mind. And my blog reflects that. So, my blog is me, right? Hehe.

Maybe I'm like a pizza. A supreme or "the works" kinda pizza. One bite, you get a pepperoni; then next, a green pepper. Each bite is different, but wonderful, of course. Except when you get that one bite where the crust is burnt or the pineapple from other pizza ended up, and then your tongue cries out, "Bleck, what WAS that?!"...but I'm sure I have those moments too. My adult temper tantrums. My times of freaking out.

So, my blog should be called, My Supreme Pizza Kinda Life. Bahaha!

This Evening...

...I got to go out to dinner with my family, and although my kids had moments of acting horrible, I enjoyed it.
...Teo put his pants on all by himself and although they were backwards, he was so proud and it was so cute. I enjoyed it.
...my husband took initiative to take me out sans kids, and although it didn't go as planned, I enjoyed it.
...Jose and I went to Starbucks and he enjoyed his coffee and we had a real discussion about real things. I enjoyed it.
...we went shopping after coffee and although we spent too much, we bought 3 wii games, including Just Dance 2 (which ROCKS!) and clothes for the kids. My favorites: matching skeleton hoodies that will be worn year round, no worries! I enjoyed it.
...we walked and held hands in the cold. I enjoyed it.
...we returned home to see Isa asleep in Jamie's arms and realized (again) that blood doesn't make a family. I enjoyed it.
...although he was playing his shoot 'em up game, Jose changed disks and we Just Danced for over an hour! I laughed a lot and I enjoyed it.
...Jose went to bed and I stayed up alone to paint a mummy for our youth group. I got time to think and do something relaxing that I love. I enjoyed it.

Today was a good day. :)

When The Tornado Hits

A couple days ago, the area in which we live was ravaged by tornadoes. About half the nation was hit by these storms, it seems. We were fortunate. The towns to the west of us were hit. The towns to the east of us were hit. Towns north and south of us were hit, but we were not.

At least, not outside.

Inside my house, the swirling, spinning, whirlwinds of life with a family have struck. I continue to try to clean and every day, there are socks and shoes lying everywhere, laundry has been dumped in piles here and there, the pillows that belong on the couch are lying on the floor around its base, papers from school and work and life are scattered along table tops, toys and coloring things are sprinkled around, and more.

I do not know how to make this mess remain controllable without spending five hours a day in cleaning mode. It sounds horrible, but we do not have five hours a day to clean.

Let me clarify, my house is not necessarily dirty. Yes, the dishes are piled in the sink, but they are washed daily, two days at the most. We have three adults and two kids here. They pile up fast. The trash is emptied and taken outside when it is full, and at least once a week, I take a trip through the bathrooms to empty the trash cans there. But it's the other, non-dirty mess that drives me insane.

I am a world-renouned (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration) organization freak. It's quite probably an OCD thing. The dvds are in alphabetical order. There are crates under the tables with filing folders, one personal and one work related. I have to have things orderly when they are in sight and when they are out of sight, but lately, I cannot keep up with it all.

Some days it really bothers me. Other days, I'm too tired to care. I think that at one time, I needed the house to be "perfect" in order to balance out the plain insanity of the rest of my life. So, maybe it's good that my house is disorderly. It's a sign of healing. Or, maybe it's a sign of exhaustion. I will stick to the first.

Jose and I are not perfect. Nor are we close to it. We go up and we go down. We have many lows and enough highs. We are facing battles that I would not wish upon my worst enemy, but we are healthy and we have beautiful, loving children. We are blessed beyond belief and I need to remain focused on that. The rest we can work through. And, work through it we do.

Many tornadoes have hit our relationship in the last five and a half years since we said "I do." Tornadoes that hurt. That are costly. That tear us apart. But we are stubborn and we continue to rebuild our relationship and our life, stronger and stronger. When we first got married, we built our house out of straw. That kinda straw that is full of ideals and lovey dovey weak and flimsy grass. When the first winds came, we rebuilt, a little stronger, and with each subsequent wind gusts, we have rebuilt again and again. With the affair, I believe we successfully made the leap from straw to sticks, but sticks are still not strong enough to withstand the high winds that occasionally blow through. We have a faith though, with the house of sticks, that has made us much stronger than before, but there is still much more we can do to make it better.

So, my house is a mess, but my marriage isn't. So, I gladly trade one for the other.

My Eyeballs!

Earlier this week, I recieved a solemn phone call from my optomitrist office. The woman spoke with such seriousness in her tone, that for a brief moment, I was afraid that my eyeballs were going to fall out or someting.

"I am so sorry to call you, Mrs. ******," she said, "but Dr. ****** has asked me to contact you regarding your appointment that you had in September." She hesitated.

Oh no, this is it, I thought, possibly being a little dramatic, something is horribly wrong. Then the logical Carla kicked in. What could possibly be wrong? They don't do lab work or anything that gets sent away, so if there was a problem, they would have known at my appointment.

She went on. "I hate to do this, but would it be possible for you to come in again, at your convenience, whenever you can fit it into your schedule for about ten minutes? Something happened and we cannot find the records of your past visit."

Whew, I get to keep my eyeballs!

I arranged to come first thing today, and told her it wasn't a big deal. I still believe that when I had my appointment there, my bad luck of the day is the cause of their computers crashing and hence, losing my file. So, it wasn't an issue. Plus, the office is probably a five minute walk from my house.

This morning, I got Isa on the bus and everything and went, full out in my stay-at-home/work-at-home uniform (sweats, a hoodie, and a hat) to the eye doctors.

My doc gave me a sheepish grin when I walked in and whisked me back to the exam room. She opened my file and handed me a gift card to Starbucks for the inconvenience. I told her it really wasn't an issue and that the gift card was much appreciated, but was not necessary. She quickly went through the normal exam. Read this line, cover this eye, look at this, better or worse, better or worse, and then...the pressure drops. Ugh, I hate those things. I laughingly told her that THOSE were the reason she felt she needed to give me a gift card, so she could put those drops into my eyes that somehow expand into invisible bricks, putting pressure onto them and making them feel like they are going to pop out of my ears.

But I survived, and it was very quick. I adore the doctor and the entire crew there at the office. I will refer people there forever, and I loved them with or without a gift card (although it was super sweet!

And wouldn't ya know, my eyes are the same from my last visit! ;)

Quick Start, Never Finish

So, as I have mentioned before, I am a "starter"...but I struggle to finish projects.

At a conference I attended a few months ago, they discussed this. There are people that are wonderful at creating and getting a fire going and burning strong, but there are other people that are great at keeping the coals hot and not letting the flame burn out.

I'm a starter. I can think up these huge projects and get them into motion. I can start wonderful things. But then, the flame gets smaller and I don't know how to keep it from burning out.

My house, my life, is full of half-finished projects.

There is a half knitted scarf on the end table. My daughter's mural is half done. My computer houses a book that is half written. There are rooms that are half decorated. My scrapbook projects are all sitting in limbo, half completed. I have a half-completed concept of a mural business.

Half of me is filled with new projects to start. I have a desire to write a book about being a child of an alcoholic. And a book about how God has used an affair to save my life. I want to start *something* to work with family members of people in jail.

The other half of me wants to complete the projects started. To have that sense of accomplishment that I had something that I did from start to finish.

Maybe I should work on the scarf. It'd be the easiest battle to win...

Plans? Fail.

Today was a ridiculous failure of planning. Everything I planned ended up basically the opposite. It was still a good day nevertheless, but was difficult for my insane necessity for preparedness.

Lunch plans got cancelled. So I asked a friend to do a couple of yard sales with me. She couldn't leave yet, so I piddle paddled around the house. At two, I went to Subway. She still couldn't escape. I went alone.

Sale 1 was MIA. Sale 2 was MIA, but I found a sale on the same road. Nothing amazing. Bought a couple of sketch pads.

Came home to finish up some work. But no response from people caused me to reach a standstill point. However, my mom took the kids.

Had originally planned a girl's thing here, but lack of response or availability cause me to cancel. Jose had a boys night out that he went to, so I was alone.

Made plans with a friend to do dinner and just chill. She wasn't able to leave due to a car situation, so my mom called and asked if I wanted to join her. I told her about my plans with my friend. She told me to grab her and the kids and come anyways.

So, we all went to dinner. Then, I came home, had possible plans with two separate friends, but as one was getting ready to come, Jose arrived home way earlier than expected. The other never made it.

Instead of having any social interaction, I decided to clean the back room which houses a lot of my scrap stuff, and put the new bureau thing in there that the neighbor gave us for free. I was about 3/4 of the way through cleaning when I took a break...and fell asleep. Jose came to wake me up. I finished cleaning and Jose got me a frappe.

Then we watched Book of Eli. Great movie. But, nothing that occurred today was planned as such. It's exhausting to change plans like that.

Hopefully tomorrow is better. :)

My unintentional week.

This week, intentional time has been few and far between. Actually, anything intentional has possibly flewn out the window. Since the start of the week, we have been nothing but schedule changes, inconsistancies, and floops. What? You don't know what a floop is? Me either. It just sounds about right.

Monday's major event was registering Isa for school. She is official. Kindergarten starts in a couple weeks. Teachers are Ms. Smith and Sra. Frabel. We have a teacher conference next week to meet the teacher. I have already met Sra. Frabel and am not her largest fan, but maybe she will show me that she's a better teacher than my first impression. She's the one who evaluated Isa for early admission.

Monday also marked the end to our first 12 week series of 24/7 Dad. It was bittersweet. There were three guys who completed the course and through it all, we all grew fairly close. Now, to know that we will not be meeting once a week, was hard. But it was wonderful to hear them give their thoughts and opinions of how the class has affected their lives.

Tuesday was one of my days home with the kids. They simply drove me crazy. It was a very hot and muggy day. And with our lack of central air, it was difficult to keep the house cool enough for us not to go insane. The kids got the vibe, I'm sure, because they were extra nerve wrecking with their arguements and misbehavings. I survived. Barely. And when Jose got home, he helped Isa clean her room.

The agreement was if she cleaned her room, we could go to Chuck E. Cheese. I believe Jose saw the need for Chuck E. Cheese to calm my nerves and to cool us all down, so he cleaned with her to make it happen. We skipped the church softball game (which was their first win) and met my sister at Chuck E. Cheese, for a night of fun, food and cool air. When we returned home, both kids easily went to bed and my wits were restored.

Tuesday also marked the day when the neighbor, John, came knocking on my door, asking if we knew anyone who could use a couch, free. I had just taken Teo out of the bath, so I was slightly distracted by his naked butt running around the foyer as I spoke to John, so I just told him I'd check around. When I texted Jose, he reminded me that WE need a new couch. So, I went next door and asked if we could have it. By the end of the day, we got a new couch and a new recliner for our living room. The old chair returned to its lair in the basement and the couch is in the dining room waiting for a new home.

Wednesday was another work day. Meetings, meetings, meetings was the jist of it. Good meetings though. During the few moments that I was home, I recieved another knock at the door which led to the neighbor giving us a cabinet thing (like for an entry area), a chalk board, a large glass mirror, and a built in bar area (for the basement). Last night, we got it all downstairs and I believe I sweated about ten pounds of water off.

Today (Thursday) has also been very random.  The kids woke me up kinda early, so after breakfast, I allowed cartoons and play. Teo did basically every single thing he could have to get in trouble. Every time he was sent to timeout, he was giggling. So, by 9:45, he was sent up for a nap (usually, he goes down at 10). Now, at 11:45, he is still awake. Screaming. Throwing things. He is simply fighting sleep and his desire for independence and stubborn struggle has worn me down. I went up to calm him down about a half hour ago, and he ended up sitting in bed, giving milk from his sippy cup to each of his stuffed friends in his bed. Afterwards, he would lick them. (I have NO idea!) I have gotten to the point where it is now a battle of willpower, so I will not give in and let him out of his room without a nap. He is so tired. When I was up there, he kept rubbing his eyes, laying down and relaxing for a split second before he realized he was at ease, then tensing back up and starting to scream and cry again. The silence is lasting a little longer and longer each time now, so soon, he will be asleep, I hope.

Isa and I have dentist appointments at 2 PM. McKenzie and Scott with be babysitting Teo here for the short amount of time that we will be gone. I pray that he becomes a normal kid by then. I'll let you know...

Making my OCD Work for Me.

For the first time in awhile, I feel calm. Cool. Collected. And, am actually seriously considering doing something fun for myself. I think I may scrapbook today sometime.

However, this has been an ongoing battle between me and my OCD. Clinically, no one has ever said, Carla, you have OCD. And I don't go around like in the movies doing every thing three times. Unlock. Lock. Unlock. Lock. Unlock. Lock. It's not like that.

It's everything else. lol.

I have to have order. Structure. Organization. Or I can't deal with it.

When my life fell apart a little over a year ago, I took time off work and instead of sleeping or crying, I played the ipod as loud as I could and bleached my entire kitchen. I mean, on my knees scrubbing. Under the sink scrubbing. Move the fridge out scrubbing. Everything. Over, under, beside, and inside everything got cleaned. Now, it's not quite to that extreme, but if the kitchen is messy, nothing else gets done. First thing in the morning, I have to clean the kitchen.

We have our hundreds of DVDs in alphabetical order. And I have set the unspoken rule that if Jose or anyone else can't put them away right, they need to stack up on the bottom shelf so that I can put them back in alphabetical order on a regular basis. The other day, I sat and shelf read the entire DVD collection so that I could make sure there were none misplaced. There were. Tons. And I had to fix each of them.

Food boxes without the label of what it is on the side drive me nuts. Who puts boxes on their shelf with the front facing out? If the contents of the box are ONLY on the front, I hate it and will hide those boxes behind the boxes with the contents on the side. Or, better yet, I will pull those and schedule our meal plan for the week around them because it seriously bothers me that I cannot tell at a glance by what's in the box.

Colors have to coordinate. Isa and I have regular daily debates when she's picking out clothes. It's not that I do not approve of what she has selected, but it's because her pinks are two different shades. I could care less if the pants are striped with a polkadotted shirt, as long as they are the same hues and shades, we're okay. You can ask Jose, but there are some things that we have fought over in the house in regards to colors... It drives me insane that the framed art above the tv is in a black frame instead of a wood one. I made him move the cross that he put over the foyer entrance because it was gray and pink instead of wood. I cannot handle wood items to be displayed in our black, white, and red kitchen either. Things in there must be metalic, red, black or white. Even shades of red work. Like the paintings with oranges and yellow. They're okay. But I may scream if you try to put a green appliance or hang a purple painting. No. No. No.

So, as time goes on, I can see more and more of my quirks. And I try to make them work for me instead of being disabilitating. It allows me to organize clothes and movies and food to a manner which is more efficient for us. For example, in the master bedroom, we do not have a dresser. We opted for the wooden cubby holes. There are 18 of them. And one day, I was frustrated by Jose's lack of putting things where I declared that they belonged. So he came home to labeled cubbies: "Jose's work pants" "Jose's work shirts" "Jose's tee shirts" "Jose's jeans" "Jose's slacks" "Jose's PJs" and similar cubbies for my clothes as well. They work out nicely now.

Also, about a week ago, I pulled everything out of our cabinets. I decided that since we're starting to coupon and stockpile, we should use one cabinet for our food that we will be eating that week (we also meal plan a week at a time) and stockpile the rest in the large white cabinet that we bought so that we can lock it and protect it from our kids. So, now, we have one built in cabinet that is strictly for food that is open or for that weeks' meals. The rest is stocked away. Today, I will be doing the same thing with our frozen foods. We have purchased our second deep freezer for the basement, so the freezer in the kitchen is for the week's foods and the open stuff only. The deep freezers will be for our stock of food.

See, it works. At least, it does for us.

It also feeds into our planned life...see, we are on a budget. And I use calendars religiously once I found one that is perfect for me (google calendars - Thanks Tim!). And I swear by them. They have helped me so much.

Everytime we have a change in finances, we go back and change our budget. Tweak. Pinch here, stretch here and viola! The hand of God is ultimately in our money because sometimes, there is no logical way it works except through Him. We have combined the budget with weekly cash allotments for certain spendings (gasoline, allowances, groceries, "family fun") and have proven ourselves even to be wrong in our thoughts about money. We can do it. It's a slow process and sometimes things come up (like the unplanned two months where I only worked 14 hours a week), but we did it. We still do it. So, today, the idea arose about getting a central air unit and new windows in the house where we have originals. It's still an idea, but before, I would have freaked out thinking about it. Where will the money come from? How will we pay another loan? What will be the benefits? Is it worth it? But now, I can step back and look at the budget first. I can see that we budgeted $60 a month for the electric bill. Last month our electric bill was $125, way higher than it ever was before. I also know that we have three window air conditioners and four fans that run nearly every day and all night to keep our house cool. Granted, it's been a hot summer. But our windows are horrible at holding heat or cool air. In the winter, if we don't have them covered in plastic, you will freeze by the window. It seriously would register at like 40 degrees by the windows. And our gas bills are extremely high in the winter. So I play with math. Because math makes sense. OCD likes math.

An extra $65 for electricity through the summer = $260 (four months). Plastic for the windows in winter = $40. We probably lose about $50 worth of heat each month with the windows, if not more = $200 (four months. That's already $500 a year in loss. Factor in that we've been living here since 2007, three years and we've lost $1500. If we wait, as we had talked about before, for another five years or so to refinance and get some money as an equity loan, that's another $2500 lost for a total of $4000...That's a central air unit right there. Plus, I believe that there are still tax breaks this year for doing some of those types of projects for energy savings and windows and whatnot. So, that would be an additional perk to doing it now instead of waiting...

Also, I have utilized calendars to make my life less chaotic and stressed. I put everything into them. Jose laughed at me because I scheduled Teo's nap on the days we stay home. I figured, it reminds me not to schedule anything during that time. If you're a parent to a nap dependent critter, you understand. If you do not ensure that there is time for a nap in your day, you suffer. So, if you open my IE any given day, my homepage is set to my calendars. And it's a colorful rainbow of his, hers, and ours schedules. And there is overlap. But, last week, when I went from one 14 hour job to 3 jobs totalling 34 hours, I buckled down with the calendar. And I wiggled and moved stuff around a bit and made it work for me. Kinda like the budget. So, now, I've got set work days of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Two of those are long days (about 12 or 13 hours) but its okay. That gives me entire days the rest of the week to play, read, relax, clean, go to the park, swim, etc. without being bothered by the weight of work. It also gives me ultimately three days to work on murals if I have anyone wanting one. It also allows me to make appointments in a more planned and thought through manner than saying "whenever" and having random meetings all week long. I'm pretty satisfied with that.

So, I'm not really sure where I wanted to go with this post, except to say that my OCD, although sometimes bothersome, has actually been benefical lately. Now that I'm working at home, I keep control of my house (except when I teach classes and Jose lets the kids destroy the house), and it's one of those things where two years ago, I thought it would never stay clean. But here I am, looking around going, man, this looks okay...for having two little kids... (granted, don't go upstairs! lol.) but seriously, it's okay for me. I try to not let things control me but to control them and use them as a gift instead of a curse. God made me this way. So, I should be thankful and should embrace it. Right?

Don't tell my legs, my achy breaky legs...

...that, deep down, secretly, I enjoyed the run that I took this morning with Merri and Jason. It wasn't much, but was killer to me. One way, I'm estimating between half a mile to a full mile. That means going and coming back we ran (I cheated and did some walking, but not much) between a mile or two. Wow. Ugh. I haven't ran like that since college, so over five years...I know I'm going to feel it in the morning. Ha! But, if possible, I will do it again next week. Maybe even twice. Lol. Here I am, overweight and a smoker, trying to run. I continuously told Merri that I A) was going to die and B) hated her. Obviously I didn't die and really, I love her. It was the burning in my legs talking, I swear.

After that, we went swimming. It was an awesome way to cool off and, although I didn't do much like laps, it was fun to have all the kids in there, splashing and playing away. Then, did a lot of just hanging around while Jason had a dentist appointment. Ate lunch, put the little ones down for nap (Teo sleeps in Thadius' big boy bed when he needs a nap there; it's so cute!) and once Jason got back, we went to the zoo for another hour or so of walking.

In all honesty, the part that was the worst was the sweltering heat. When I called time and temp around five, it was 91 degrees out. Uck.

Now, we are just hanging out in the storm. Jose's watching some Asian man cooking on PBS and Teo is in bed. Isa's spending the night at her friend Nessa's house.

Here is the day in pics:

This is how I found Teo this morning. Sometime in the middle of the night, he removed his diaper and then went back to sleep in the nude. It's cute now, but I hope he doesn't continue this into his teens. Haha!

Isa and Thadius at the zoo. :)

Teo at the zoo, up close and personal with the donkey. It was cool until the donkey started gnawing on our stroller. Bad donkey. Strollers are not food.

I was watching Teo as he got a cookie box off the table, got a cookie out, and then sat down at the table alone just like a big boy. He looks so tiny though, sitting there eating his cookie. I think this may easily be one of my favorite pix.

Jose, Teo and I went to Golden Corral for dinner after Isa went to a sleepover at Nessa's house. The first picture is classic Teo face. I love it. This is his "baby bird mouth" that I adore. He makes it when he's waiting for you to feed him. So cute. The second pic is just tired baby boy leaning on daddy's arm while eating. Sometimes, it's such a rough life...

And that is all. Good night world. Hope your weekend is stellar! :)

What Better Way to Glimpse My Life...[Part II]

Here is a continuation of the random photos found on my phone. :) Enjoy.

Isa, playing the "ball game" on my iPod.

A sick Teo, after his bath, which had the opposite of a calming effect. He looks so miserable, yet so adorable.

A good friend from church, Sarah. We realized while at a Tastefully Simple party that I needed a pic for my phone as her contact photo, so this is now what pops up when she calls. :)

Heidi leaves a pair of flip flops at our house for when she goes out to smoke. Teo loves to play with those flip flops. I caught him putting them in the crisper drawer...hmm. No wonder we can't ever find them when she's she is looking for them.

For a day or two, Teo had an ucky butt rash. I stayed home with him and let him air his booty out for short periods of time. Snapped this pic and just had to save it! I love that lil' bum! <3

There he goes with Heidi's flip flops again!

I went to WM after a long stint of sending Jose and FREAKED out when I realized that there were no shelves of junk between the aisles! I had to message Jose and ask him what was going on. It seriously was weird!

Got some money from a coworker of Jose's for helping him put together an "ask packet" for sponsorships. I used it to get the long awaited tattoo to add Teo's name to my wrist. The name and the star are his.

At my old job, I would often get bored, so I'd send a pic of me to Jose and the kids to say hi. This is one of those pix.

When we go to Meijer, it's as much of an entertainment thing as it is a shopping thing. Here's Jose and Isa.

We also have fun when we go out to eat. Here is Teo, Isa, and Jose and BDubs. Teo thinks he's a ladies man. Pretty sure he's on the phone with one of his many girlfriends in this pic. My hubs is just plain sexy. And Isa is playing with a toy from a Happy Meal, but Jose constantly laughs at the pic and says it looks like she's holding a turd. Ew.

This is my puppy, who isn't a puppy, and who kinda isn't mine anymore. Her name is Lacie. Short for Larceny. I <3 her so much. It's been six years since I got her and she lives with my mom on their huge country property. She is happy there (and well fed!).

This is what I got paid to do sometimes at the old job. :) It was a nice break from all the other "uck"...

When I saw him doing this, I laughed SO HARD! He is my ornery booger...

Last year, our art teacher came into work wearing a Twinkie costume (I'm hoping it was Halloween week). I was trying to eat her! :) HAHAHA! This is a horrible pic of me btw.

Around Halloween last year, Isa and Teo got these masks from Richards (we love to eat there, like some old fogies!) and they loved them so much. Teo didn't want to take it off! :) Haha!

My silly hubs is a GB fan. That means Teo has to try on somethings at the stores. Here he is modeling a hat. I told Jose "no" to buying it. He does look cute though!

One day, during one of my loooong nights at my old job, Jose sent me pictures of the kids playing. :) I forgot how bald Teo was for a short time...lol!

Another pic that Jose sent me while I was working. This was quite awhile ago....like a full year...Teo grew up so quickly, he didn't stay in his carrying seat for long!

Again, old photo. June of last year. This is my sister's high school graduation. Holding Teo is my stepmom, Linda, and next to her is my dollbaby, Isa. :) I was snuck into the picture too.

And to end the blog for today, here's what our backyard looks like every spring when we have crazy hard rain. :( Sometimes it's even more water than that. Yuck. Good thing is, it dries up pretty quick. Still is yuck though. I wish we could get enough free dirt to fill it up...

So, that's the end for today. What's your favorite pic and why? :)
