O.W.L. - Getting Healthy is a Hoot!

Some awesome ladies and I have joined together to tackle our health. The result is O.W.L.

It is just us, supporting one another, holding each other accountable. Giving one another tips and ideas. Making an effort to work out together. We have created a facebook group. We may be creating a blog.

The focus is on weight loss, however, scales are not required. Weight loss can be measured with a scale, but at the first meeting, inches were discussed much more.

Basically, each lady is encouraged to do what works for her. A reward chart was shown at the meeting, as an example, and as for me, I loved the idea.

I came home and talked to the hubbs, who also talks about getting healthy, so we decided that we would adapt this idea here between us.

I created these little booklets for each week. There are seven daily pages as well as a page for measuring inches at the start of the week and at the end of the week. The booklets are slightly different for Jose and I (for example, his caloric intake goal is 2000, mine is 1500), but overall the same idea.

However, we are very competitive, so instead of just giving us each our money at the end of the week or the month, we decided to make a twist: Whoever earns the most money at the end of the week, get's their money, only, first they have to subtract the other person's amount.

What it looks like is this:
If for this week, Jose earns $54.75, and I only earn $33.25, he wins. But, he doesn't get the full amount. He will get to have $21.50 (the difference).
If for next week, I earn $49.00 and Jose only earns $42.50, then I walk away with $6.50.

So, a constant competitive edge is created to keep the other person from getting a ton of money (or surpassing them and getting the money). And, the nice thing is, it's done weekly, so if I suck at it this week, I'm not doomed to lag behind forever. Next week, we start at zero again and I have just as much chance to rock it as Jose does.

The super nice thing about this is, you can do it in pairs of anyone. Two friends can do this and commit that whomever loses puts up the money. A mother-daughter team can do it. Coworkers. Any set of people can create their own goals, give them monetary value and do this. If you do decide to do it, let us know...I would love to know how it goes!

Today is day 3. I'll let you know how it goes.
