Since we just finished celebrating the Christmas holiday, my Memory Monday is focused on this photo of my baby girl, five years ago.
When Isa was born, I worked as a small nonprofit as a Youth Coordinator for a program. Every year, they had a Christmas celebration for the youth we served and their families. With Isa being about 2 months old, I wanted to take her and show her off. My students loved her and their families wanted to meet her.
So, I asked my mom to join me. Since it was a work function, I was required to work to some extent, so I needed someone to help me with the baby. And, I'm fairly sure that Jose still worked nights at that time, so he wasn't able to join us.
I worked at an Hispanic center, so the music was in Spanish, the speaking was in Spanish, and Santa shouted, "Feliz Navidad!" instead of "Merry Christmas!" My poor white mom.
When Santa came into the room and walked to the lobby, followed by a trail of children, I followed with Isa as well. I wanted to see my students and their siblings recieve gifts and speak to Santa. When the holly jolly man himself said my daughters name, I wasn't quite sure if it was my Isa. I mean, Isabel is a fairly common name and our last name is common as well...but after a few moments, no one else went to retrieve a gift, so I took my baby girl up to get her very first Christmas gift. Needless to say, she wasn't very efficient at unwrapping, but the Weeble that was inside still resides at our home.
