Today, I rocked it! I got a ton of small projects done for work, mastered a financial mini-dilemma, cleaned up the living areas of the house while Jose made dinner, cleaned out my car, and transferred a ton of paint from cans to bottles.
Let me elaborate on that last part...
As a "painter," I have acquired a large collection of half empty paint cans from people. I've got cans from freecycle, from friends, from our own projects, from the side of the road, etc. Seriously, I love free paint!
Anyways, the half empty cans easily fill up portions of my basement. Large areas of space are consumed by cans, many of which I have no clue what color paint is inside. So, a few months ago, I went on a quest to figure out a way to keep the paint in a more organized and more useful manner.
When I saw the clear condiment bottles at Walmart for less than a dollar each, the little light bulb above my head lit up and I dumped the entire shelf worth into my cart. Then, the next week, I went by and dumped the entire shelf into my cart...again.
And, when I cleaned out my car today, the 10+ cans of paint in my trunk inspired me to do something about it. So, after cleaning it all out, I took the paint, grabbed the bottles, found a bottle opener and a funnel...and I got to it.
After a trip to Gordon's Food Service (with a friend who gave me the inside scoop that Gordon's sells larger bottles for cheaper), I have emptied approximately 10 cans of paint into approximately 25 bottles. It was awesome! I filled some up with paint straight from one can, I mixed two colors in others. Now, I have a great assortment of colors, including orange, skin tone, white, shades of brown, shades of blue, purples and pinks, and a little bit of green. They are all settled into my "maid totes" that I got on clearance about a month ago, just for paints. (Some of them have wax paper keeping them "closed.")I'm in love! Seriously...
It makes me excited to paint murals...now, to find time and people to have me paint their walls...
