The Most I Have Laughed In A LONG Time...

Our church service is set up a little differently than most. We start at 10 AM. Have about 45 minutes of worship and the sermon, then there's about a five minute break, followed by another 45 minutes of Sunday School for the kids and Sermon Sequel for the adults. Sermon Sequel is like Sunday School, but better. (Okay, maybe I'm a little biased, but I like it.) Adults stay in the sanctuary and it's basically a discussion, usually to dive deeper into the sermon topic. Today, the topic was Gluttony (we're actually doing an entire series...), but what made me laugh was amazing and totally irrelevant.

First off, let me state that I'm one of those jerk people who loves America's Funniest Home Videos and laughs whenever someone (myself included) falls down. I can't help it. There's no filter there in my brain. And I often feel bad afterwards for laughing. But, I don't know how to stop it.

Well, today, we're sitting in Sermon Sequel. My husband, myself, and my stepmom were sharing the row. Teo was in the nursery and Isa was in Sunday school. In the midst of discussion about gluttony, the woman behind us leans over to tell my stepmom, Linda, that there's a spider crawling on her chair. I look over as she says this, and see Linda lean forward, but in desparation, she over shoots the edge of her chair and instead topples off her seat and into the aisle of the church. Although I am the nearest person to her, I am paralyzed by laughter. The woman behind us, after stomping the spider to death, erupts into giggles, and Linda remains on the floor for a couple of minutes, laughing hysterically as well. Our parish nurse had jumped to his feet in concern, but after realizing the situation was not serious, sat back down. The church member who was leading Sermon Sequel stopped mid-sentance to determine what the ruckus was about (to which the woman behind us was able to explain through her fits of laughter), and after all was said and done, someone finally came to the rescue of Linda to get her to her feet and back into her chair. I had tears streaming down my face, I was laughing to hard.

Throughout the rest of Sermon Sequel, I kept giggling. And through the rest of today, I have laughed randomly just thinking about it. I told my mom and stepdad about it at lunch and had to stop the story to regain my composure.

I love things that make me laugh. And I thank God that Linda is okay, the spider is dead, and I have gotten a chuckle from it all. He really knows how to keep church interesting!
